Asuogyaman Mutual Health Insurance registers 63,103 people

The Asuogyaman District Mutual Health Insurance Scheme (NHIS), has so far registered a total of 63, 103 people.

The figure represents 78.2 per cent of the total population based on the 2000 Population and Housing Census.

The District Chief Executive (DCE), Mr Johnson Ahiakpor, disclosed this to the media at the “Meet the Press “series at Atimpoku on Thursday.

He said contrary to speculations that the scheme was collapsing in the district, it was rather one of the best in the region.

Touching on the National Youth Employment Programme, the DCE said so far 1, 517 youth had been employed under ten modules, which included Community Education Assistants, Waste and Sanitation, Health Extension Workers, Trade and Vocation and Youth in ICT.

The rest were Youth in Agriculture, Youth in Security, Afforestation, Volta Lake Enhancement Project and National Mosquito Control Programme.

The DCE announced that a new module, Youth in Aqua-Culture, would be added onto the system to rope in more youth.

Mr Ahiakpor said the assembly had plans to construct more educational infrastructure to boost teaching and learning in the public schools and also motivate teachers to give of their best.
