Vodafone Ghana also outsources towers, after Tigo

Vodafone Ghana has become the second mobile phone operator in Ghana after Tigo to outsource its telecommunications towers to another company.

In January 2010 ghanabusinessnews.com published this story saying Tigo had sold approximately 750 towers to Helios Towers Ghana (HTG), a direct subsidiary of Helios Towers Africa.

Information reaching ghanabusinessnews.com from the global telecommunications sector says Vodafone Ghana has signed a 10-year deal with Eaton Towers. Eaton will take-over 750 telecommunications towers belonging to Vodafone in Ghana.

According to the terms of the agreement, London-based Eaton will sell use of the towers to other mobile companies operating in the country, and generate revenue from separate contracts.

Eaton said it will invest about $80 million over 10 years to improve the existing towers and build new ones that will improve Vodafone’s coverage in Ghana.
