Chinese company to help Ghana build two regional hospitals

The Shanghai Construction Corporation of China is to assist Ghana with technical expertise to put up two regional hospitals in Kumasi and Wa.

The company, which assisted Ghana to put up the Essipon Stadium in Takoradi and the Tamale Stadium before the CAN 2008, registered its support for Government’s “Better Ghana Agenda”, and has agreed to be engaged on the two projects as contribution to the health of the people on which the nation’s wealth depends.

Government’s “Better Ghana” agenda, which was part of its campaign manifesto, is to create jobs, invest in people, good health, creating opportunities for all and running an open, honest and transparent Government.

Operating in 30 different countries, the company  has a reputation for good quality work, and often completing their projects ahead of schedule.

President John Evans Atta Mills announced on Thursday during a visit to the offices of the company in Shanghai, that Government is poised to step up the development of infrastructure in the process of lifting up the standard of living of the Ghanaian people.

This, according to President Mills, involved the construction of a number of projects, adding that the Shanghai Company would be engaged in the country’s infrastructural development process because of its track record.

“If anybody wants proof, the proof is there for all to see,” President Mills said.

President Mills reiterated the need for good quality health, and reassured Ghanaians that Government would ensure that health became accessible to all.

It was part of Government policy, under the previous National Democratic Congress (NDC) Government to provide at least each of the 10 regions with a regional hospital.

Some of the regions benefited, and the proposed construction of the two hospitals is seen as a continuation of that policy.

President Mills assured Ghanaians that Government would always roll out programmes that would improve the lives of the people to fulfil the promise of ensuring a better Ghana.

Mr Jiang Zhiquan, Chairman of the Shanghai Construction Group, commended Ghana for her sound democratic credentials and described Ghana as bearing the torch of democracy.

He registered the company’s support for Government’s Better Ghana programme and promised the Company would keep to its record of delivering quality work.

President Mills had earlier visited the Expo Shanghai 2010, and interacted with exhibitors at the Ghana Stand.
