MTN Ghana invests over GH¢30m in society, employs 150,000

Ghana’s leading telecommunications company MTN, says it has invested over GH¢30 million into its social responsibility projects in the country in the last three years, especially in the areas of health and education.

The company also said it has directly created jobs for 150,000 Ghanaians.

The company’s senior executives made these known at an Editors Forum at the Novotel in Accra, Friday September 17, 2010. The Forum is part of MTN’s continuous relationship building efforts with the media, the invitation letter to the event stated.

The company according to Mrs. Mawuena Trebarh, Head, Corporate Services, considers its social responsibility as an important part of its operations in the country. In the last three years, MTN Ghana has invested GH¢3,058,227.34 in various development projects across the country she said.

She also told editors at the Forum that MTN currently employs 1965 staff and the staff engage in volunteerism, which she describes as a “distinguishing feature of the MTN Foundation.” The MTN Foundation was set up to oversee and manage the company’s Corporate Social Responsibility activities.

The head of Sales and Distribution, Shaibu Haruna said MTN Ghana has created 150,000 jobs through its retail outlets throughout the country.

The company, the executives indicated is working hard at improving its network to provide world class services to its customers.

MTN Ghana is the biggest telecommunications company in Ghana with a subscriber base of about 8.7 million.
