Scuffle over national service voluntary forms

There was a scuffle on the precincts of Greater Accra Regional Office of National Service Secretariat (NSS) over the purchase of National Service Voluntary Forms.

The sale of the forms began on Thursday morning with about 300 Service Personnel forming a long queue when around 12 noon, one of them attempted to jump the queue.

He was confronted and an attempt to pull him from the queue resulted in a scuffle in which the young man sustained a broken nose halting the sale in the process.

Nana Seth Asiedu, Accra Metropolitan Director of National Service Scheme, in an interview with the GNA, said all voluntary forms had been sold out.

He explained that only 500 forms were supplied to the Greater Accra Regional office with the Metropolitan Directorate receiving only 50 forms.

Nana Asiedu noted that this year’s voluntary intake was limited because the Government could not afford the allowances for a large corps of personnel.

Speaking to GNA, most service personnel expressed disappointment and appealed to government to come to their aid and offer them employment.

  1. justice says

l would like to use this opportunity to plead with the government to do something serious about this issue and note that, at least these personnel would help the teachers in the government school to improve basic education in this country. Also they could also be employed to work on farms to increase our food production, rather than allowing them to sit in the house to think of bad ways of making money like faking as a doctor, pharmacist ,susu company’s, computer fraud, robbery, gays etc. PLEASE HELP US! Amen.
