Ghana Police to deploy 1,200 personnel during Atiwa election

The Ghana Police Service would deploy 1,200 personnel at the 113 polling stations in the Atiwa constituency during the bye-election on August 31.

Deputy Commissioner of Police Ransford Ninson, the Eastern Regional Commander, told the GNA in an interview that the region would provide 725 while the rest would be reinforcement from Accra.

He said in addition to the personnel at the polling centres, there would be patrols in and around Atiwa.

Mr Ninson said so far there had been no disturbances but 23 areas had been identified as flash points where there were disturbances during previous elections.

He cautioned persons planning to foment trouble before and during the election to desist because the police would leave no stone unturned to ensure a free bye-election.

He also appealed to people in Atiwa to cooperate with the police and provide them with information to be able to protect lives and property.
