Government provides 26 outboard motors to fishermen in Winneba
The government has presented 26 outboard motors to fishermen in Winneba as part of its promise to help promote the fishing industry in the country.
The Effutu Municipal Chief Executive, Nii Ephraim, made the presentation at a durbar for fishermen in Winneba that was also attended by Assembly Members, Heads of Departments and fishmongers.
Nii Ephraim said each machine costs 5,000.00 Ghana cedis and that the beneficiaries would have to deposit half of the amount and to pay the rest within 12 months in instalments.
Neenyi Moni Kaiko, Chief Fisherman of the area, expressed his gratitude to the government for coming to the aid of fishermen in the country.
He appealed to the government to put in place measures and programmes to enable fishermen buy other fishing gears like nets at affordable prices.
Neenyi Moni Kaiko commended the government for the regular supply of pre-mixed fuel to fishermen in the area.
He said within a period of one-and-half-years in office, the new executives have been able to build a filling station with some of the profits accrued from the sales of the product.
