SIFE appeals for financial support to represent Ghana in US

Members of Students of University College of Management Studies (UCOMS) branch of Students in Free Enterprise (SIFE), global and non-profit organisation of students, have appealed for assistance to participate in this year’s international competition.

It is scheduled for Los Angeles, USA from October 10-12.

The appeal was made in a statement issued in Accra and signed by Mr Heshbon Opata, Project Director of SIFE.

It said national and international competitions were held annually for participating teams to showcase their projects by video presentations to be judged by business leaders.

This year’s competition was keenly contested by 14 institutions in Ghana including University of Ghana, Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology, University of Cape Coast, University of Development Studies, UNOCMS and other tertiary institutions.

After two days of active presentation before a panel of judges from corporate Ghana on July 8-9, 2010, SIFE-UCOMS in their maiden appearance emerged winners, when they defeated twice defending champions of 2008/2009, Ho Polytechnic.

SIFE made up of five presenters, an IT personnel and a faculty adviser are located on more than 1,800 university campuses in e44 countries.

The statement said SIFE-UCOMS team presented three projects:
Students Initiative Project (SIP) aimed at discovering developing and deploying university students into the world of unlimited economic opportunities.

Business In Prison (BIP) aimed at applying business, economic and entrepreneurship approach as a discipline in the Prison Reform Policy of Ghana, and Tomefa Development Programme (TDP), the star project aimed at promoting the environment, social and economic benefits associated with the Weija Forestation and Tomefa Island as an eco-tourism centre.
