Police arrest Anti-Revenue operative for extortion

Peter Nana Yaw Asamoah, 35, an operative of the Anti-Revenue Leakages Monitoring Team of the Ghana Revenue Authority, has been arrested by the police for alleged extortion and impersonation.

Asamoah was arrested following complains by personnel of the monitoring team, who levelled a number of incriminating charges against him.

Mr Thomas Mills, Leader of the team, told the Ghana News Agency in Accra on Monday that the suspect was arrested on Sunday for allegedly using his name to extort money from people.

He claimed that Asamoah also impersonates as a member of national security and arrest usually uncustomed vehicles, which he use as his personal property.

Mr Mills warned that the exercise to cause the arrest and prosecution of such miscreants would continue and asked those engaged in such nefarious activities to stop before the law catches up on them.

He advised the public to report to the security agencies anyone who uses his name or that of the team to engage in criminal activities.
