Nkenkasu Hospital builds GH¢60,000 staff quarters from IGF

The Nkenkasu Government Hospital in the Offinso-North District, has built two semi-detached staff quarters at a cost of GH¢60,000 from its Internally Generated Fund (IGF).

The quarters was on Friday inaugurated alongside some theatre equipment valued at GH¢25,000 at a ceremony.

The equipment included an autoclave, anaesthetic machine, oxygen cylinders, and sets of operation machine for adult hernia, paediatric hernia, laparotomy, myomectomy, hysterectomy, and caesarean section.

The Offinso-North Member of Parliament (MP), Mr Collins Stephen Ntim, provided the equipment.

Speaking at the inauguration, Dr Kwame Deto, Medical Superintendent of the hospital, complained about the poor state of many of the staff bungalows in the area, which were built about 20 years ago.

He said they were making every effort to mobilize funds to put them into good shape.

Dr Deto said, to help enhance its operation, the hospital would require additional nurses, x-ray and scan machines, expansion of its laboratory unit, more beds and wards.

He said critical units for accident and emergency, eye, nose and ear, nutrition and rehabilitation, physiotherapy, mortuary and an administrative block also needed to be in place.

Dr Deto expressed appreciation to the MP for the equipment and the District Assembly for providing electricity poles to be used to extend power to newly built quarters.

Dr Asiedu Bekoe, Head of Surveillance, Ashanti Regional Health Service Directorate, appealed to the people to support efforts at promoting quality health delivery in the area.

He encouraged the staff to work hard and maintain high standards of professionalism.

Mr Ntim pledged to register 3,000 people for the one-time National Health Insurance premium, when it takes off next year.

Mr Yaw Sarbeng, the District Director of Health Service, said they were working relentlessly to make quality health-care accessible to the people through the construction of more Community Health Planning Service (CHPS) compounds.
