EC to exhibit voters register on August 9

The Electoral Commission (EC) on Friday announced a nationwide exhibition of the voters register at all polling stations from Monday, August 9 to Sunday, August 15.

The exercise would take place from 7:00 am to 6:00pm each day.

A statement issued in Accra and signed by Mr Christian Owusu-Parry, Acting Director of Public Affairs of the EC, said both the register compiled from 2004 to 2008 and the one compiled in June this year would be on display.

“The exhibition of the voters register is an opportunity for all registered voters to check and confirm their particulars in the register,” it added.

The statement reminded the public that only persons whose names appeared in the voters register were eligible to vote in public elections and therefore all registered voters must endeavour to check their names during the exhibition.

It said persons who had genuine voter ID cards but whose names were inadvertently omitted from the register would have the opportunity to apply to for the inclusion of their names in the register.

The statement said the exhibition was also intended to clean the register of any errors, and registered voters could therefore, ask for wrong spelling of names,  wrong photographs and wrong ages and sexes to be corrected.

The EC appealed to the public to volunteer information on deceased relatives and other unqualified people whose names appeared on the register so that their particulars could be expunged.
