Headteachers study principles of accounting

The Nkoranza District Directorate of Education has organized a workshop for more than 200 head teachers and their assistants on basic principles of accounting to be able to manage the Capitation Grant efficiently.

Mr. Pius Agyemang, District Internal Auditor, advised the school heads to spend the Capitation Grants on activities outlined in their Schools Performance Improvement Plans.

Unless under authorization from the District Education Directorate, head teachers should not utilize the grants, he said, and advised those who had problems with accurate records on their school funds to visit the district accounts office for advice and assistance.

Mr. Kwadwo Darko, district accountant, urged the head teachers to seek the approval of School Management Committees (SMCs) before accessing the grants for utilization.

This, he said, would enhance transparency in their administration and also promote a cordial working relationship among teachers.

Mr. Darko called on chairmen of SMCs not to condone and connive with head teachers to fraudulently use the capitation grants to avoid putting themselves into trouble.

Madam Phillipa Banson, District Director of Education, appealed to teachers to support their head teachers since their roles and responsibilities were very vital in quality education delivery.

She called on the head teachers to be open to their teachers and to respect their views and urged teachers to be disciplined and to work hard to improve the standard of education in the area.
