Efficient management of water can reduce water borne diseases – PRO

Mrs Adjoa Darko, Public Relations Officer of Water Resource Commission, said on Wednesday that water borne diseases could be minimized or eradicated if proper care is taken to manage and maintain water.

She said this during a programme organised by the Water Resource Commission for District Assemblies.

Mrs Darko mentioned the improper disposal of liquid and solid waste, illegal disposal of faecal sludge into water bodies and storm drains, farming near river banks and use of poisonous chemicals in fishing as some of the activities causing pollution and destruction of water resources.

She appealed to Metropolitan, Municipal and District assemblies to enact by laws and enforce existing ones on Water Resource Management especially in indiscriminate disposal of waste by communities.

Mrs Darko appealed to Assemblies to ensure that farmers did not farm near river banks so as to reduce soil erosion and siltation.
