SIC gives GH¢15,000 for SWAG Nyemitei Cup

State Insurance Company (SIC) has presented GH¢15,000 as sponsorship package for the Sports Writers Association of Ghana (SWAG) towards this year’s SIC/SWAG Nyemitei Cup Match.

Accra Hearts of Oak and Obuasi Ashgold will vie for the 2010 edition of the SWAG/SIC Nyemitei Cup in a two leg encounter at the Obuasi Len Clay Stadium and Ohene Djan Stadium, Accra respectively.

Mr Benjamin Acolatse, Managing Director of SIC said on Tuesday that whilst other companies were more interested in making profits, his outfit was committed to its social responsibility alongside the company’s business objectives.

He said SIC was therefore looking forward to a spectacular match between the two premier league matches.

Mr Acolatse noted that SIC remained the leading insurance company in the country with records of prompt payment of claims among other responsibilities and deserves the support of all Ghanaians.

Mr Ackah Anthony, President of SWAG, who received the cheque on behalf of the Association, announced that the first leg of the competition would be played on Sunday July 25, at the Len Clay Stadium. The second leg date, he added, would be fixed later.

He, however, explained that the decision to choose clubs for the event remains the preserve of SWAG adding that though Heart of Lions won the last edition of the premier league, the Association selected Ashgold and Hearts based on the trend of the last league season.

Mr Ackah said Hearts and Ashgold have promised soccer fans an attractive game on the day and gave the assurance that the Association would organise a better event this year.

He, therefore, called on soccer fans to fill the stands on the day to enable the Association realised its goals.

Mr Albert Commey, Public Relations Officer of Hearts said the club was determined to send a message to the public about their plans for the coming season.

He indicated that Hearts would be ready for battle by the said date and called on fans to patronise the matches.
