Police arrest four suspects in cocoa beans smuggling

The Police at Half Assini have arrested four persons  aboard a cargo truck, which was carrying 33 and a half bags of dried cocoa beans, at the Beyin Snap Check Point.

The suspects, Karim Mohammed, Asana Alhassan, Arede Ofori and Alex Abekah, have been placed in Police custody, while the truck and the cocoa beans have been impounded, pending further investigations.

The Police, led by Inspector Seth Ebulley, made the arrest at about 1210 hours on July 1, a press release from Western Regional Police Command, had said.

It said during interrogation, the suspects said they were transporting the cocoa beans from Asasetre village, near Nkroful, to Tikobo Number One.

The release, signed by Chief Inspector Olivia Ewurabena Adiku, said the suspects, however, could not produce the waybill accompanying the cocoa beans to the Police.

It said the suspects would be put before the court after investigations.
