Farmers in the north to get support

An Agricultural Business Promotion Company based in Israel, Agripale is working in collaboration with the Northern Agro Service Company(NAGRO) at Tamale, to support farmers in the three northern regions and encourage them to improve upon their activities.

Agripale deals in agricultural machinery like tractors, planters and processors, and also purchase food crops including tubers like yams and cassava, cereals, legumes and vegetables.

Mr. John Alori, Director of NAGRO, announced this at a farmers’ forum at Nkoranza, which was attended by 25 farmers from Ejura, Nkoranza, Kintampo and Wenchi at the weekend.

Mr. Alori said it was the objective of his company to help reduce problems and challenges that confronted farmers in the country, particularly those in the northern part of Ghana.

He mentioned some of the challenges as the lack of ready market for their produce, unreliable farm implements, and tractors that suited the terrain for proper land preparation and unavailability of processing machines.

Mr. Alori said Agripale would assist the farmers to obtain tractors at affordable prices, to enable them work on large scales, for increased productivity of the food crops required for export.

He said the two companies would also assist and encourage the farmers to produce rice, maize, soybeans, as well as ensure that the produce are sold at attractive prices.

Mr. Alori said the companies’ aim is to ensure that farmers escaped the exploitation of “inter traders” known as “middle men” so as to enjoy fully from their sweats and toils.
