Ghana to make World Cup semi-final history against Uruguay

Ghana is on the verge of making World Cup history as the national team, the Black Stars meet Uruguay at the quarter-final stage of the ongoing FIFA World Cup in South Africa.

The Black Stars have shown unequaled resilience, commitment, passion and talent at the World Cup, making the team look poised for a semi-final qualification after the match against Uruguay.

Ghana finished in second position in the group stages and beat the USA at the round of 16 to reach the quarter-finals. In their second World Cup appearance and at the first tournament in Africa, Ghana is the only African team out of the initial six to remain in the competition, making them the sole carriers of the continent’s hope.

Fielding the competition’s youngest team, the Black Stars played their all-time best game ever against the USA beating the Americans 2-1. The tactical discipline, technical superiority, and commitment the team displayed made it beat the USA.

At this stage of the competition, the entire continent is behind the Black Stars, who look determined to honour the faith that the continent has in them.

But the Black Stars are not playing against an ordinary team. Uruguay is an experienced World Cup playing nation. Indeed, Uruguay won the first ever World Cup in 1930 when the country hosted the competition. Uruguay also won their second World Cup title in 1950 in Brazil beating the hosts 2-1 in the finals.

It is however possible that the Stars in their current form and discipline can come up tops at the end of the match.

Hopefully, when the Black Stars win, citizens would celebrate with moderation to avoid injuries and deaths. Reports reaching ghanabusinessnews.com said three jubilation related deaths were recorded at the Korle-bu Teaching Hospital Accident Centre after the Ghana-USA match.
