Public university in Volta Region takes off with GH¢3m investment

The government has released three million cedis for the take-off of the proposed public university in the Volta Region.

The university would be located in Ho with a campus in Hohoe the Volta Regional Minister, Mr Joseph Amenowode, said at meetings with chiefs and people at Dzodze and Akatsi as part of his tour of parts of the region.

He said 55 first and second cycle school projects would be undertaken in the region this year in addition to 50 proposed road projects.

Mr Amenowode said government was mindful of the promises it made to the electorate in the region and was committed to fulfilling them.

He said the Sogakope-Ho-Fume road network would be completed this year, the Akatsi-Ziope and Metrikasa-Wheta-Agavedzi roads have been slated for tarring while the road linking the southern sector to the north through the region would be tackled in phases.

Mr Amenowode called for unity in the region and appealed to chiefs and land owners to release land for the Youth in Agriculture and tree planting projects.

Col Cyril Necku (rtd), the Deputy Volta Regional Minister, said the government had been modest in talking about its achievements so far given the enormity of the problems confronting it.

At both meetings participants called for the elimination of bureaucracy in the payment of allowances to recruits of the National Youth Employment Programme.

They also called for the resolution of the problems relating to Fulani herdsmen in the region otherwise people would be compelled to take the law into their own hands to protect their life and property as some had done.
