Businessman questions quality of some goods

Mr. Franklin Kofi Gedzia, Managing Director of Dzialet Company Limited, a general goods distributor in Ho, has advised importers to ensure that only good quality goods were supplied to the Ghanaian market.

According to him, certain consumables including tomato puree and cocoa products supplied to his company went bad before their stated expiry date, raising doubts about the quality of these goods.

Mr. Gedzia raised the issue during the inauguration of the Ho Municipal Oversight Committee of the African Peer Review Mechanism (APRM) in Ho.

Mr. Gedzia, who is a member of the Ho Municipal Assembly told the Ghana News Agency (GNA) that the practice among suppliers was to refuse liability for the mouldy products, resulting in big losses for distributors.

Mr Gedzia conceded he had not reported the issue to the relevant state food quality regulatory bodies but rather attempted seeking remedy in the courts.

He appealed to importers to exercise due-diligence in their business practices.

Mr. Fedelis Attoh, Volta Regional Director of the National Commission for Civic Education (NCCE) who inaugurated the committee said the committee’s job of incisive monitoring and reporting on issues of governance was a very important one which needed only people with unblemished credibility.
