Government pays off accumulated arrears of NYEP

Government has released GH¢16 million to pay off the four- month accumulated arrears of the personnel of the National Youth Employment Programme (NYEP).

An amount of GH¢3.5 million has also been released to the Agricultural Development Bank, to minimise the GH¢26million government owed the financial entity.

The ruling National Democratic Congress incurred a debt of GH¢17 million from the previous administration.

Mr. Abuga Pele, National Co-ordinator of NYEP made this known at a press conference in Accra on Thursday.

As part of the NYEP’s exit plans, Mr. Pele said 7,000 out of the 13,000 beneficiaries of the Health Extension Model would be absorbed by the Ghana Health Service.

He said the Ministry of Youth and Sports had also negotiated a flexible entry requirement for the beneficiaries, who would want to pursue professional career in nursing and related fields.

Mr. Pele said 10,000 beneficiaries would be recruited under the Health module, 15,000 under the teaching module and 25, 000, for the Youth and Security module in the fresh recruitment, which would commence in earnest this month.

I thank the NDC government for clearing all this arrest and I want to say the NDC are always calm in coming out with facts. We all perceived in us that it was NDC who owes the ADB the said 26Million Ghana cedis, only to know it was 17Million from the previous government who knows how to talk and only 9Million from the NDC. Always come out and let the public know the facts in the system for the opposition are always on air claiming you could not pay the NYEP they created and left behind.

Why should the government sack us when we were told that 60% will be employed by ministry of health, 10% for school and the rest re-apply. They are all lies, if not when will it take off.
