Ghanaians on Facebook outraged at countryman for naming son Berlusconi

The decision of a Ghanaian immigrant in Italy to name his son after controversial Italian leader, Silvio Berlusconi has angered some Ghanaians on the biggest social network site Facebook.

A Ghanaian member of Facebook posted the link to the story by the AFP to his profile. According to the story, 36-year-old Ghanaian immigrant to Italy, Anthony Boahene who has lived in Italy since 2002 and is a metal worker says he likes the way Berlusconi talks and moves, adding “I like him as a person, even if I don’t really follow politics.”

Boahene named his son who was born in Ghana in 2005 Silvio Berlusconi Boahene. He was taken to the northern Italian city of Modena a month ago to live with his father and two siblings, the report said.

The father even believes his son may grow up one day and become either the president of Ghana or Italy, and so he wants him to study politics one day.

The young boy might become an Italian citizen in three years.

Some Ghanaians on Facebook were not pleased with the issue. They have made angry remarks on the matter.

One member, Don Setor wrote: “his child would be President of Italy? He’s dreaming. I just rubbished it when I read it yesterday.”

But James Jabez Amamoo was uncharitable. He wrote “primitive thoughts coupled with sheer ignorance……”

But for Lilian Naa Laryea the episode sounds funny. She wrote “I read this article yesterday and all I could do was laugh!”

Gauging the comments of these Ghanaians on Facebook, it is possible that most Ghanaians will not look favourably to Mr. Boahene’s decision.
