Aboakyer festival celebration launched in Winneba

Neenyi Asiedu Bondzie 1, head of the Otuano Royal Stool Family of Winneba, has said this year’s Aboakyer festival would start on April 24 and reaches its climax with a durbar on May 01.

The festival will end on Monday, May 3 2010.

There will be a marathon on April 26, general clean-up on April 27, regatta between fishermen groups on April 28, health walk/Medical screening and a football gala on April 29.

On Saturday, May 01 the Aboakyer Day, the two Asafo Companies, Dentsifo No. 2 and Twuafo No. 1 would go to the bush to capture a deer to the durbar grounds.

The first animal that would be brought first to the durbar grounds is stepped on by the Omanhene, Neenyi Ghartey VII with his left leg to signify it acceptance for tradition and customs.
