We would give women the needed push – Opoku-Manu

Mr Kofi Opoku-Manu, the Ashanti Regional Minister, has said the government would give every necessary support to women to become economically self-dependent.

He said women are doing a wonderful job to keep the homes and the nation going and would be given the needed push.

Mr Opoku-Manu said this when he received a 13-member delegation from the City of Almere, Netherlands, who are in Kumasi for a three-day visit.

Mrs Annemarie Lebbink Jorritsma led the delegation, made up of Councillors, technocrats and women leaders.

Almere has been in sister-city relations with the Kumasi Metropolitan Assembly (KMA) since 1996. They have been cooperating in education, economic development and culture.

The visit is to help strengthen the partnership.

Mr Opoku-Manu told the delegation not to have any doubts about the success of the partnership and suggested to them to critically explore areas they could be of assistance to women.

Mrs Jorrirtsma said Almere was one of the fastest growing cities in Europe and that they were ready to share their experiences with the KMA.

She said they were going to sign another Memorandum of Understanding with KMA to define and expand new areas of cooperation in the next two years.

She said they were impressed with achievements made so far through the partnership.
