Switzerland to support Ghana’s electricity sector with $12m

The government of Switzerland is supporting Ghana’s electricity sector with a $12 million grant.

In a press release issued by the Swiss Embassy in Accra and copied to ghanabusinessnews.com Tuesday March 2, 2010, it said governments of the two countries have completed the procedures for the implementation of a “$12 million Electricity Sector Reform and Extension Programme signed in 2008.”

According to the release, the programme which will be implemented in collaboration with Ghana’s Ministry of Energy “will support Ghana to achieve a high-performing electricity sector through implementation of structural reforms.”

The $12 million grant, it said, is Switzerland’s contribution to the implementation of the Ghana Energy Development and Access Project (GEDAP) which aims at improving the operational efficiency of the electricity distribution system and increase access to electricity.
