He said the books were to be given to the school pupils free of charge and tasked the District and Municipal Chief executives to ensure that the books got to the school children.

The Regional Minister said he would be going round to check if the books had reached the pupils.

Mr Ofosu- Ampofo explained that pupils in the junior high schools are entitled to 15 exercise books, comprising one graph book and technical drawing books while those in primary three to six are to receive to 10 books.

Primary one and Primary two pupils would benefit from nine exercise books each.

Regional Director of Education, Mrs Rene Owusu Boakye- Boaten on behalf of the education directorate expressed her appreciation to President John Atta Mills for the gesture.

She promised that the directorate would ensure that the pupils receive the books and urged parents to supplement the efforts of government to keep their children in school.
