Petty trader defrauds farmer

Rukayatu Abubakari, a petty trader in Hohoe, has appeared before a Hohoe Circuit Court for defrauding Mr Ebenezer Lawson, farmer, of 41 bags of charcoal.

Rukayatu pleaded guilty to defrauding by false pretences and was admitted to bail in the sum of GH¢5,000 with two sureties and will reappear on September 11.

Prosecuting Chief Inspector Samuel Gbedemah said Rukayatu made a false representation to Mr Lawson on August 03 last year and collected 41 bags of charcoal valued GH¢164 to repay after selling them.

She failed to pay after persistent demands and Mr Lawson made a report to the police. She was in December last year and was granted bail but she went into hiding until she was re-arrested on August 10.
