Ghana said to become one of main oil producing countries in sub-Sahara Africa

oil2The Chief Executive of Eni SpA, Italy’s largest oil and gas company has said Ghana is destined to become one of the leading oil producing countries in sub-Sahara Africa.

Paolo Scaroni who is in Ghana said this to President John Atta Mills Tuesday August 11, 2009 at a meeting at the Castle Osu, Accra.

Mr. Scaroni expressed Eni’s interest to build “a new and durable partnership” with Ghana, the Wall Street Journal has reported.

Eni is one of the companies named to be interested in the Kosmos Energy Jubilee field stake.

Since Ghana discovered oil in commercial quantity in 2007, the country has generated interest around the globe, especially among major oil industry players including Royal Dutch Shell.

Recently, a Nigerian oil and gas company, UTM Oil and Gas Limited has also expressed interest in establishing in Ghana’s oil and gas industry.
