Tullow Oil finds more oil in Uganda

tullowLondon based oil and gas exploration company, Tullow Oil Plc says it has found more oil in Uganda.

In a press release copied to ghanabusinessnews.com, Tullow oil announces that the Ngara-1 exploration well, which is located in the Butiaba region of Uganda Block 2, has encountered over eight metres of net oil pay.

It says, the well, which is located approximately one kilometre from the crest of the structure, was drilled to a total depth of 714 metres and has been successfully logged and sampled.

Good quality basal sands were encountered with over eight metres of net oil pay in a 17 metre gross reservoir interval with additional potential up-dip, it added.

Commenting on the discovery, Exploration Director of Tullow Oil, Angus McCoss, said, “Ngara-1 is the tenth discovery in the Victoria Nile Delta play and marks the end of a very successful opening phase of the Tullow-operated exploration campaign in the Butiaba region of Block 2. We are now planning to integrate all regional well and seismic data with the recently acquired gravity survey. The results from this work will further enhance our understanding of the subsurface and identify additional prospectivity within the region.

Preparations are now under way to commence a new drilling programme with our partner, Heritage Oil, in Block 1 in the fourth quarter of this year. We are also looking forward to the results from the Ngassa-2 well which remains on track to reach Total Depth in August.”

Tullow Oil says it will consider this new discovery and other prospects as part of its next Block 2 drilling campaign which is expected to commence in 2010.

Tullow Oil is part of the partnership that is currently involved in the xploration of oil and gas in Ghana’s Jubilee oil field, which is the largest to be discovered in West Africa in the last 10 to 15 years.

Tullow is in partnership with Kosmos Energy, Anadarko and the Ghana National Petroleum Corporation and they plan to start commercial production of Ghana’s oil and gas in June 2010.
