Nigerian man sentenced in Malta for carrying Ghanaian passport
A Nigerian man has been handed a six-month suspended sentence for a year in the Island of Malta for possessing three documents belonging to different people including a Ghanaian passport.
The man, 28-year-old Bright Solomon, was reported by the Maltese media to have admitted Thursday July 2, 2009 that he was carrying a Ghanaian passport bearing a different name, a document belonging to another person livning in Italy and an identity card that belonged to a third person. He was also reported to have admitted using these documents illegally in Malta.

This goes to show you how easy to get a Ghanaian passport to commit a crime especially Nigerians who over the years have destroyed their name in this world with crime.
The government of Ghana should take Ecowas our liniency out of the equation and double the effort in making Ghanaian birth certificate, Passport and other national document much more secure to avoid fraud being committed against national identity such as this and how did he got it.
This is not possible in Canada, Australia, Spain or Britain. If it continues no Ghanaian passport will be respected and it will be under serious observation when travelling with Ghanaian passport.

For a Ghanian to accuse a Nigerian of spoilling thei national passport and country name is like the classical case of the Pot calling the kettle black. My Virtuous and Angelic Ghanian brother seems to have forgotten his own history and where his country is coming from.
A careful study of Ghanians living in many many parts of the world today will tell this our Ghanian brother that most of his Ghanian brothers in the early 80s up till the 90s used Nigerian Passport to escape to europe in the name of seeking for greener pastures. There is no documentary evidence that clearly illustrates this than the case of the former Ghanian national team player Odatte Lamptey who used the Nigerian passport to escape to Belgium in the name of searching for greener pastures and esacping economic poverty at home. Many Ghanians have been arrested abroad who claim to be Nigerians and hence hace helped to destroy the image of Nigeria in tghe past.
It has become common for overzealous and Ultra-righteous Ghanians to start crucifying Nigerians these days while forgetting that their own citizens commit the same kind of crime in many parts of the world. The speed with which many African nationals and citizens of many western countries rush to condemn and crucify Nigerians is something that Nigerians must speak out against.
i agree that Nigerians commit a lot of crimes ranging from 419 to credit card frauds, however, who has ever seen a CNN documentary specially dedicated to how Ukranian gangs are into organized crime, drug smuggling and human (women trafficking)?, who has has seen a special CNN documentary solely dedicated to how chinese cooperations and citizens are into drug and human smuggling, credit card fraud and even worse Grand scale Industrian espionage that steals both trade and intellectual secrets from corporations and governments all over the world espececially from the advanced countries like America and the UK?
I enjoin my Nigerian brothers to reject life of crime, especially those crimes like 419 and credit card frauds that destroy the lives of others and which gives the country a bad image but at the same time we must stand up and condemn in a strong and united voice, anyone from any country who stands up to single out Nigerian citizens for condemnation as criminals, especially those people that come from countries that have benefitted in no small measure from the kindness and largess of the Nigerian people. Many African countries today hate Nigerians with passion despite the fact that Nigeria helped their nations several times ovr a long period of time in the past. A case in point is South Africa where Nigerians are deliberately targetted for robberies and killings. The hen came home to roost for them when their hatred of Nigerians led them to kill one of their greatest musical icon, Lucky Dube after mistaking him for a Nigerian. I hope my Ghanian brother will not go the same way in his hatred of Nigerians.

It’s a big pity for people to just believe when a black person says he/she is a Nigerian. The first test for you security agents is to ask the person to speak 2 or 3 local languages in Nigeria. Morealso, we don’t regard anybody that gives there names in pure English or Christian name. A typical Nigerian must have a local or generic name and specify his or her local village before the person could be recognised as a Nigerian. I had travelled to many countries and met a lot of Ghanian and other West African countires claming to be a Nigeria when cought from a crime and they can not even speak any language from Nigeria.

I was born in Ghana., have a Ghanaian passport since the day of Young Pioneers. My parents are from NIgeria, so I got Nigerian Passport; I migrate to Canada so I got Canadian Passport. My son was born in U.K. so he has a U.K., Ghana, Nigeria and Canadian Passports. I always call myself a Nigerian because that is the BEST country in Africa. I visit Ghana every year. I was there during the election. I have friends at the top level in Ghana. But NIGERIA is still the BEST!!!!
like nigerian passport, ghanian passport is also not respected. as a nigerian myself, i am illegally using a belgian passport,i obtained it for 2000 euros from the home office in belgium, while mentaining my nigerian passport. All these happens because of the way these so called europeans treat anythin nigeria, so i love to be treated like a king, i opt for belgian passport. my friends are using gambia passport, others are using botswana, swaziland, lesotho and other countries.

Most of the writers on this subject have been missing the point. Are Nigerians and Ghanians not the same citizens? Well if they are Ecowas citizens then they can call themselves Nigerians or Ghanians if they choose.

Well I think with no hard feeling, I have helped a lot of Nigerians in Italy most of them using Ghanaian passport in the early nities (90s) I was then working with the immigration being a Ghanaian I was to spot and report fake users of passports.I knew and intercepted a lot of Nigerians with Ghanaian passports but I just retreived them and help them get the Genuine Italian resident cards Soggiorno. I did that because a lot of Ghanaians also used Nigerian books to travel overseas when the going was though for my dear country.The only problem is that our Nigerian Brothers use the books most often a time to commit crime.mostly fraud,you see lots of Ghanians though used nigerian pasports they often used it to travel to seek jobs outside not to set up car and home offices to sign some wild signatures for quick money.we are all Africans but Nigerians know full well that their image has been destroyed due to these very unfortunate crime.Now in Ghana they have professional criminals well dressed with offices training Ghanians how to be smart and make easy money remember we went to work in Nigeria during our hard times but not to defraud people we were teachers,labourers,truck pushers puff puff sellers etc ,but they are young smartly dressed Nigerians in Ghana doing basically nothing except sitting all day behind a computer looking out for a mugu.Why will such a rich Nation we all call big brother desert their beautiful home and travel all around the world just to commit crime sadly that is the reality of the situation.If Ghana had a quarter of Nigerias wealth I bet you we will stay home and build it. Why should you Nigerians keep saying that you are better than Ghana? With all your oil wealth your standard of living should have been up there with the likes of Saudi Arabia, Kuwait, UAE etc but look at the mess you are still in. What is wrong with Africans? Ghana as the former flag bearer of black African emancipation will probably take the mantle once more and show the rest of Africa and the world that with a little money from our newly found resource we will be able to launch Ghana into an industralised nation and compete with the likes of the Asian economies, something that Nigeria should have accomplish by now. So don’t say you are better than Ghana! In terms of democratic governance we are doing it!

hello everyone, im a nigerian leaving in ivory coast for 2 years now, life here is not easy since i cant get a job but to do little business here and there to stay alive and away from troubles. i have a dream of travelling to europe or america for a better life hence i cant go back to nigeria not because i am ashamed or anything but just because i cant live in naija anymore after staying here all this years.
i still have my valid naija pp with just few stamps from naija, ghana, benin and ivory coast, i want to move out from here but from what people are saying that travelling with naija pp is very difficult to enter europe or america. i have not gone to any embassy to enquire if this is possible but really i want to travel out from here. can someone help me out here, i can sponsor myself in ticket, visa fees if there will be any needed in the countries that i have in mind and also i can get my BTA. I need real contact and real people over there that can help me enter the country, i am a simple and cool guy and can be trusted. Few friends of mine has moved out but not to the countries i have in mind, mostly to aisian countries which is out of the question. i need to be in the US or europe, can someone over there help me out get in there? It is pathetic that Nigerians even dare to compare theirselves to Ghanaians. In reference to your own founding fathers, Nigeria is a mere “geographical expression”. You are on the verge of being labelled as a failed state. Nothing works in your country, unless of course 419, and other detestable activities. Iam not condeming Nigerians. Have nothing against them but love.Let this finger pointing stop and put the right people at the various job.We need to be serious and handle these kinds of situations very swiftly. My concern is, i observed this situation twenty years ago when i was in Europe, before comming to the U.S . And i know the authuorities has always known about this ,but because we always don’t have the right people at the various position some issues are ignored.But this is a very important issue for the government to to draw people from Ghana Imigration, Ghana Police,B.N.I. etc.We all know how most Nigerians are behaving in and outside their country. I have been to ghana several times but that is not the issue. Mine is that every crime on earth today was started and masterminded by the so called whites. They came to africa and not only loot our resources but went with us in thousands for slave trade. Why then we black brothers of the same skin tear our shirts in discord. The bigger question here is not wheather Nigeria or Ghana is better but the general perception of both countries.
On the international scene Nigeria has a bad wrap and the perception is that Nigeria is a country where criminal activity seem to be a national past time. The fear of a Niegrian holding other nations passport is the potential that it will be used for Criminal Activity and not so much of the mere possesion.
We all do hold multiple passports but it is ony when there is a fear that crime and fraudulent activity will be perpertuated that people get angry and disburded.
I am sure there are a lot of Ghanains holding Nigerian passports but because Ghananians by their nature do not have such ingrained inate criminal tendencies the mere possession of he passports is not such a sinister proposition.
Lots of Ghanaians did move to Nigeria in the ’80s in search of greener pastures. Thes were dedicated hard working people whose only interest was to work and acquire something. Ghanaians at the time never corrupted Nigeria by any crimincal activity. Indeed they did add to the progress in the education .The reverse can be said of Nigerians in Ghana. Criminal activity, 419 scams, armed robbery, rape etc is typical of their activity and this is the truth. These tend to overshadow the good work that certain sector of Nigerians do to help Ghana. Supply of Oil and the banking system to name a few.
Nigeria as a nation could have done a whole lot better to represent Africa the way they should and would have wanted. Instead Greed, Fraud and and criminality have destroyed this potentially great nation. For all its wealth Nigeria finds itself being compard to Ghana a resource poor nation that strives to achieve something. That mere comparison should make Nigerians ashamed of themeslves. We have greater expectations of Nigeria and Nigerians and they should get out of this cycle of self destruction and take their expected position among progressive nations.
As for Ghana contiue to take the progressive strides that have endeard your nation to the rest of the world and hopefully with your newly found oil you would your nation to a better plain to the envy of Yes – Nigerians.

Please stop all this comparison. I am from Southeast Asia, Malaysia to be exact. Both countries are special in their own way… I have lots of African friends here and I can proudly say that both my Ghanaian and Nigerian friends are equally beautiful in their own way i.e. culture, food and people.

How about erasing the artificial borders and issuing a single passport for the ECOWAS region. That will be more cost effective and possibly reduce corruption in the passport business.
Ghanains and Nigerians, you have no shame at all. Other african countries are looking at you as heros. If things are not right in any country, we should give advice rather than taking it personal or individualising it. It will be a wonderful world if we Africans stopped looking at each other with mistrust. My personal challenge is that having done business in both Ghana and Nigeria I tend to hold the opinion that I would take Ghana anyday of the week. When a prophet told me that I will be doing business in Nigeria someday I got frightened. Look, Nigerians are not evil. My best friend is from Nigeria but truth be said – Having done business with a lot of
Nigerians in the past, I do not wish to repeat the experience.
My Nigerian brethren should drop that arrogance brought on by the so-called “oil wealth” and be brutally honest about the challenges of living in Nigeria. My friend for instance was almost kidnapped in Nigeria because he is thought to be rich. He is afraid to take his children there on vacation for the same reason.
I am riddled with sadness however because Africa needs Nigeria in a very bad way. I pray Nigeria comes to its senses. As one black American told me – Anyone who visits Nigeria first in sub-saharan Africa may never return to Africa again.
As one who loves Africa, I beg of my Nigerian brethren not to be emotional about this topic but rather collectively find a voice to condemn all those practices that make Nigeria such a hard place to live.
I have visited prominent people in Nigeria who have up to 9 police officers guarding their homes. I stayed in hotels in Nigeria where each floor had a stationery security guard 24×7. I have been into banks in Abuja and Lagos state where metal detectors were built into the doors of the entryway. Let us not even begin to discuss NEPA.
Why must we lie to one another as Africans about the stage of seige in Nigeria. All our countries have problems. We have a dirt of leadership and systems. Look at Ghana – a country that refuses to acknowledge the contributions of their citizens who live overseas. They have some stupid law called ROPA that does not allow dual-citizenship and requires one to drop the citizenship of any other country before running for public office. Think about it – This is a country that is poor and cannot create jobs for 20% of its college graduates. still has the nerve to turn away brain power that more advanced countries are willing to pay for.
Yes, Ghana is totally mad in many respects, this being one of them but the Nigerian problem is leprous in nature and must be addressed by all well-meaning Nigerians. Arrogance is simply a cover for the putrifying sore that Nigeria’s reputation has become!

Could it be that much of the hatred and vitriol coming from some africans against nigerians is out of jealousy and envy? I ‘m just curious. What do nigerians do that others don’t do? Why the double standard in judgement?
Africans have come a long way…crime no matter how big or small in ratio of comparision is still termed a crime. Ghana being a small country have less crime ratio compare to nigeria which is far more in population. quantifying crimes in percentage isnt going to change who we are. pointing accusing fingers at each other wont help either….my dream of a strong reliable african nationals coming togather under an umbrella of peace is fast approaching. let us do away with the issue of blackmailing each other for greed and selfish interest…looking closely these are stuff brought to us by our currupt elite friends. we have been contaminated with negative civilazation lets join hands togather and flush this sociatal ill that has brought us fighting each other. abeg ghanians and nigerians stop messing your image home and abroad.
Hey, my fellow Nigerians, let us not act like cowards. The USA, China, UK , Russian and others does much more than Naija and yet the condemn us because we make black people smart and great. Listen, the white thought that the black will remain blind and when they saw that Nigeria knows even more than they thought they knows, they started using every means to see that they destroy our image.
It was an american businessman who last year 2009 fraud a bank of some billion $ not a Nigeria. So many deadly crimes goes on every day but not by Nigerians still dey will ignore all of them and condemn an innocent country like Naija. China in several occassions has taped informations from the US millitry base (pentagon) still the white people will not consider it crime but still keep eyeing Naija. Their eyes will all blind since they can not see.
Nigeria is great and will remain so till Christ comes. I don’t care how am being treat outside Naija but I target what I wanted till I achieve it. If the want me to remove my panties for them to search ahh while not but still they can not stop me because I know my human right. I wanted to fight an immigration officer in an airline in Germany before he calm down and attend to me just like other travellers. We should know that we are Nigerians and that we don’t give up on intimidation easily.
We are the only African country that knows what the other big countries of the world thought they knows. The only different is that we lack in the areas of technology. Had it been that our great country were able to couple air planes, cars, ships or even nuclear weapons, I beat you my brothers, no nation of the world would have stand and talk when we talk. But all the same we are just 50years old and I believe we will do more in years to come by the Grace of God who strengthens us. I know we are the Isrealites and no man can cures us.
As for our fellow African brothers, they act out of greed and jeolous knowing that Nigeria is wonderfully made. No African country can stand Naija for sure. So I suggest we ignore them and move forward to unending grateness were we are slated to be in no time. Long live the Federal Republic of Naija!!!!!!!!! Naija we your children loves and cheerish you and wish to come back as great people to behold your warm embrase. Happy 50th anniversary come 1 October. ONE LOVE ALL BELOVED NAIJA CITIZENS.
