Trader fined GH¢500 for stealing ram

The Kade District Magistrate’s Court on Monday sentenced Kate Agyeiwaa, a trader, on her own plea of guilty, to a fine of GH¢ 500 or nine months’ imprisonment in default.

Prosecuting, Police Inspector Eric Tetteh told the court presided over by Mr Kwaku Baah–Frempong that the convict and the complainant lived at Asuom in the Kwaebibirem District.

He said for some time the complainant had been experiencing theft of his goats and sheep from his pen, which was a source of great worry to him.

On December 22, 2008 the complainant experienced yet another theft of a ram from his pen.

The Prosecutor said the next morning at about 0530 hours when the complainant was leaving Asuom for Kade, he saw Agyeiwaa dragging the ram into her house.

When he confronted her she told him that her father gave the animal to her.

The Prosecutor said Agyeiwaa later said she bought the ram from a young man but she could not identify him.

The complainant immediately arrested and escorted Agyeiwaa to the Police station with the animal.
