Chainsaw operator in trouble for cutting trees

The Nyinahin police have arrested Kwabena Nimo, a 28-year old chainsaw operator for felling trees without permit.

He was alleged to have sneaked into the cocoa farms belonging to Messrs. Wilson Nkrumah and Kwaku Forkuo at Afriyiekrom near Nyinahin in the Atwima Mponua District of Ashanti without permit and fell a total of seven mahogany trees in the middle of last year.

Nimo was put before the Nyinahin Magistrate Court on Thursday for felling trees without permit and consequently remanded into prison custody to reappear on January 28th.

He pleaded to the charge.

Police Inspector Isaac Asherow told the court that, the accused, who lives at Afriyiekrom took advantage of a sacred day in the town, sneaked into the complainant’s farm at night and fell the trees.

The court heard that following a tip-off the accused was arrested and after investigations was charged with the offence.
