Workshop on Labour Act opens in Takoradi

A two-day sensitization workshop on the dissemination of the Labour Act (Act 651 of 2003), opened in Takoradi on Thursday.

Forty-nine participants are attending the workshop, which is being facilitated by the Business Sector Advocate Challenge (BUSAC), Department for International Development (DFID), Danish International Development Agency (DANIDA) and the United States Agency for International Development (USAID).

Speaking at the workshop, Mr Joseph Kingsley Amuah, the Senior Manager for Industrial Relations of the Ghana Employers Association (GEA) said the workshop aimed also at sensitizing participants on the safety of employees.

He said the employer must protect the employee from imminent hazard, give them work to do, give the worker equipment and machinery to work with.

Mr Amuah urged managers to give out copies of the law to their employees and refrained from breaking the Labour Law.

He said employers must communicate with their employees to know their grievances.

Mr Amuah said the employee should provide faithful service, work with reasonable care but with good skills.
