President John Evans Atta Mills was Wednesday January 7, 2009 sworn into office as the third President of the Fourth Republic of Ghana.

The ceremony which was attended by a throng was conducted at the Independence Square in Accra.

President Mills was sworn into office by the Chief Justice Mrs. Georgina Wood.

His Vice President, John Dramani Mahama was also sworn into office at the ceremony which was graced by Kofi Annan, former UN Secretary General, the Japanese Prime Minister Junichiro Koizumi, and other dignitaries including some African Head of States.

President Mills in a speech promised to run a government devoid of witch-hunting saying he would not pursue vendetta. He promised to dedicate himself to the well being of all Ghanaians.

Present at the ceremony were former Presidents Jerry John Rawlings and John Agyekum Kufuor.
