Ghanaian woman in US found guilty of child abuse

A Ghanaian woman based in the US has been found guilty of child abuse which eventually resulted in the death of her daughter, news from Colorado says.

The woman, Susie Quartey was found guilty by an Arapahoe County jury for the death of her 3-year-old daughter Joylyn Torpoh on Friday. The jury’s deliberation took one day.

Police say Susie hit her daughter more than 50 times. She is accused of hitting the little girl with a broken towel rack or hanger.

The prosecutor, Jay Williford was quoted in reports as saying that, “the amount of pain this 3-year-old endured was significant. This was not a one-time loss of control. I believe the jury saw that.”

Susie faces a possible 16 to 48 years in jail. She is due to be sentenced on February 18, 2009.
