Nurse crowned Miss Road Safety 2012
Ms Bishara Pelpuo Salifu, a 24-year old Nurse at the Koforidua Government Hospital has been crowned as the winner of the second edition of Miss Road Safety 2012 in Accra.
Ms Pelpuo beat nine others including Zuera Ahmed, Emefa Elsie Nyonator, Louisa Yayra Ziorklui, Joana Boakye, Patience Dowuona Hammond, Bishara Pelpuo Salifu, Gifty Solo, Regina Nana Ekua Asare, Benedicta Mawuenyega and Eudora Animah Andoh to win the coveted crown.
Ms Pelpuo, for her win, would now serve as the ambassador for the national road safety campaign for a year.
The pageant seeks to create awareness on road safety issues where as part of the programme, contestants deliver messages on road safety which was followed by talent performance.
Soon it was time to cut the number of delegates to five which saw Zuera Ahmed, Louisa Yayra Ziorklui, Bishara Pelpuo Salifu, Regina Nana Ekua Asare and Benedicta Mawuenyega making them the top five.
The five delegates then went through a Question and Answer segment where they answered questions on various issues affecting road safety in the country.
After the segment Benedicta Mawuenyega was declared the first runner up, Regina Nana Ekua Asare, second runner up and the ultimate prize went to, Bishara Pelpuo Salifu.
Ms Pelpuo, in an excitement expressed gratitude to God for winning the coveted prize and for her prize, she won the coveted official campaign car and a shopping voucher, while the first and second runner ups received phones from rlg and other consolidation prizes.
Mr Noble Appiah, Executive Director of National Road Safety Commission, said women are strong advocates for road safety and encouraged drivers to put on their seat beat anytime they seat behind their steering wheel.
He called on Ghanaians to hold leaders especially politicians responsible on policies concerning road safety and commended the maiden winner for her contribution to the campaign against road safety.
Mr Emmanuel Kweku Hayford, the Managing Director of Functional Keys Limited, the event organizers, said the pageant does not only seek to project the personality who would use her influence as an ambassador but to boost sponsorship and lead others to participate in road safety projects.
