Societe Generale fails to produce document on deals with GNPC

SG-SSBMr Gilbert Hie, Managing Director, Societe Generale, Ghana, says a check at the head offices in Ghana and France, revealed that the company had no documentation covering its dealings or suit with Ghana National Petroleum Company.

This, he said, could be attributed to the practice of Societe Generale, destroying documents, which are more than 10 years.

Mr Hie said this when he took his turn at the Judgement Debt Commission on Tuesday to answer questions pertaining to the payment of 19.5 million dollars to Societe Generale by GNPC about five years ago after the sale of a drilling ship.

He said he could not really tell whether documentation pertaining to the payment of the money to Societe Generale has been destroyed since none of it could be traced at the head office.

This did not go down well with Justice Yaw Appau, Sole Commissioner and Mr Dometi Sorpkor, Lead Counsel for the Sole Commission, who expressed disbelief that the company could destroyed all documentation on cases which are only 10 years old.

Mr Hie was discharged because he was not in a position to provide relevant details on the payment of the judgement debt to his company.

Sitting at the Judgment Debt Commission had been adjourned to Wednesday, September, 18.
