WTO says Ghana officially nominates Kyerematen for D-G post

Ghana has officially nominated her former Trade Minister, Mr Alan John Kwadwo Kyerematen for the Director-General post of the World Trade Organisation (WTO).

The WTO on its website confirmed that Ghana made the nomination today December 17, 2012.

“Ghana, on December 17, 2012, nominated Mr Alan John Kwadwo Kyerematen for the post of WTO Director-General,” the Geneva-based organization said in a statement.

Current WTO Director-General, Mr Pascal Lamy’s term of office expires August 31, 2013.

The nomination period will close on December 31, 2012, the WTO said citing its procedures for appointment of Director-General.

A formal General Council meeting will be held on January 29, 2013 where candidates will present themselves to the membership for the final selection.

The selection process will conclude with a decision by the General Council no later than May 31, 2013, the WTO said.
