SWAG to hold Ghana’s first sports colloquium

The Sports Writers Association of Ghana (SWAG) will partner, Metropolitan Television (Metro TV) and Emmanuel University College to organise the first ever Sports Colloquium and Media encounter to seek the views of stake holders on the future of Ghana sports.

The event will be held in Accra Tuesday, December 4, with the likes Dr. Kofi Amoah, Magnus Rex Danquah as some of the key speakers.

The colloquium, which will be under the theme “Employing Sports as a Driver of Youth and National Development” is to provide a viable advocacy platform to develop practical solution-based positions on certain broad thematic areas that impinge upon Sports as an economic driver in Ghana.

In a joint statement signed by William Dodzi Ezah General Secretary of SWAG and Moses Foh Amoaning, Vice President of Emmanuel University College, it said, the motive behind the event is to make up for the deliberate neglect of sports in the agenda of all political parties throughout their campaign.

The statement said, it was expected that Sports development which has over the years proven to be a binding force of our nation will be on the menu of topical issues in our political discourse, but has sadly been relegated to the background as typified by the absence of questions on Sports and Youth Development at the recent Institute of Economic Affairs (IEA) Presidential Debate.

It said, the colloquium is expected to discuss some thematic areas such as Transparent and Accountable Sports Administration, Accessible Infrastructure for all sports, Sports Equipment Industry and the Media, after which a broad consensus will be reached on the thematic areas.

The statement said, an enhanced communiqué will be drafted and presented to each of the political parties to serve as their guide for sports development should any of them assume political power in the December 7 elections.
