NADMO steps up fight to stop wildfires

The Asante-Akim South District Office of the National Disaster Management Organization (NADMO) has stepped up the fight to prevent wildfires in the area.

Mr Agyapong Boadi, District NADMO Coordinator, said the annual ritual of destruction of farms and other property during the harmattan through fires would have to end.

He said “Disaster Volunteer Groups” had already been formed in the various communities for this goal.

Speaking to the Ghana News Agency (GNA) at Juaso, Mr Boadi said NADMO would work closely with the Ghana National Fire Service (GNFS) to ensure that the incidence of fire was significantly curtailed.

He warned that those who started fires would be arrested and brought to justice.

He advised game hunters, farmers and palm-wine tappers to be more careful in their handling of naked fires.

Mr De-graft Forkuo, the District Chief Executive (DCE), said every support would be given to the Organization to prevent fire disasters, especially around this time of the year.
