Former Black Queens player dies in car crash

An ex-Black Queens player, Patricia Ofori has died following a car accident on April 20, 2011 in Huntsville, according to media reports in the US.

Media reports suggest that Ofori, born on June 9, 1981, was on the way to graduate school class when the accident occured.

Ofori was a former player of Alabama’s A&M women soccer team and played for the Black Queens at two World cups in 2003 and 2007.

She played for the Bulldogs from 2005-2007 and led the team to the 2007 Southwestern Athletic Conference championship and a berth in the NCAA Tournament, Alabama news website al.com said.

“This is the biggest shock of my life…its unbelievable”, A&M women’s soccer coach Frank Davies was cited by the publication as saying.

Statistics on FIFA.com indicates that Ofori played in the game involving Ghana and Ethiopia on December 13, 2002 in Oghara which ended 3-0 in favour of Ghana.

She was also involved in Ghana’s 1-0 victory against Nigeria on December 10, 2002 played in Warri.

Some of her playmates when she was with Black Queens were Memunatu Sulemana, Florence Okoe, Adwoa Bayor and  Akua Anokyewaa.
