Ghana transition team holds first working session

The Presidential Transition Team, chaired by the Vice President, Mr Paa Kwesi Amissah-Arthur, on Friday held its first working session at the Flagstaff House in Accra.

The Team would execute the mandate assigned it under the Presidential Transition Act 2012 (Act 845).

A statement issued in Accra James Agyenim –Boateng,   Spokesperson to the Transition Team, said the Team constituted the three statutory sub-committees including inauguration sub-committee, government machinery sub-committee and presidency sub-committee.

It said there was a sub-committee also to ensure that arrangements were made for the timely release of benefits to article 71 office holders under the 1992 Constitution.

The Presidential Transition Act 2012 (Act 845) is an Act to establish arrangements for the political transfer of administration from one democratically elected President to another democratically elected President, to provide for the political transfer of power and for related matters.

The statement explained that working arrangements and time schedules for the various sub-committees were set to ensure that the Team meets the January 7, 2013 deadline for the accomplishment of their tasks.

Vice President, Mr Amissah-Arthur, addressing the session urged the members to be diligent and mindful of the Presidential (Transition) Act, especially as this was the first time under the fourth Republic that political power was being transferred to a government under the legislation.

He also tasked the team to adhere to the arrangements and time schedules for the various sub-committees.

The inauguration sub-committee, would include Alhaji Muhammad Mumuni, Minister of Foreign Affairs, Mr Roger Angsomwine, Mrs Elizabeth Joyce Villars, Mr Johnson Asiedu Nketiah and Nana Sogloh Alloh IV.

For the Government sub-committee, it includes Mr Henry Martey Newman, Chief of Staff, Samuel Ofosu Ampofo, Minister of Local Government, Head of Civil Service, Secretary to the Cabinet and Mr Paul Victor Obeng

The Presidency sub-committee include Minister of Finance, National Security Advisor, Administrator-General, Daasebre Kweku Ewusie III and Mr Vitus Azeem.

Other sub-committee members responsible for end of service benefits include Nana Oye Lithur, Dr Valerie Sawyerr , Deputy Chief of Staff , Finance Minister, Proffessor. Agyemang Badu-Akosa, and Mr A. K. Bonney.

Team will meet again on Wednesday, December 19, 2012.
