Police burn Indian hemp

The police in Techiman have destroyed 51 large and mini-bags of Indian hemp (Wee) intercepted at various points in the municipality.

The hemp was contained in 15 large sized bags, eight mini-bags and 28 parcels.

The police also destroyed 16 locally manufactured pistols, 18 single barrier guns and mobile phones they seized from armed robbers at different locations in the municipality.

A G3 rifle and a 24-inch set were however not destroyed as their involvement in a case was still under investigations.

Briefing the Ghana News Agency Chief Superintendent of Police Joseph Antwi–Gyau, the Techiman Municipal Police Commander, said the destruction had become necessary because the narcotic was a “nuisance” at the charge office as well as the headquarters where it had been kept for the past three years.

The police in Techiman have arrested two Fulani men for stealing nine sheep at Kranka and Baafi in Nkoranza North District.

The suspects are Adam Issah, 17, and Billa Mumuni, 27.

Chief Superintendent of Police Antwi–Gyau told the GNA some of the animals belonged to Nana Okofur Amsare VIII, Akwamuhene of Nkoranza Traditional Area and Krankahene.

He said the two suspects were arrested upon tip-off when they offered the animals for sale at Techiman Central Market.

Meanwhile, the police have released the animals to their owners after they had identified them.
