MTN Ghana provides GH¢31,000 ICT Centre for Ankarful Prison

In pushing further its corporate social responsibility activities, Ghana’s leading telecoms provider MTN Ghana has set up an ICT Centre for the Ankarful Prison in the Central region at the cost of GH¢31,000.

In a press release copied to ghanabusinessnews.com, MTN said it constructed the building, installed five computers, air conditioners and ceiling fans.

According to the release, the project is intended to facilitate ICT training for the 2000 inmates and officers at the correctional institution. The centre, it added will also build the capacity of the officers for effective record keeping and management.

The project was initiated following a request from the Ghana Prisons Service and was approved by the Board of MTN Ghana Foundation.

Commenting, Mrs. Mawuena Trebarh, Executive Director of the Foundation said that the MTN Ghana Foundation is happy to assist national efforts at developing ICT knowledge across all stakeholder groups and support the prisons reform process.

Adding that “the MTN Foundation is committed to the socio-economic advancement of the Ghanaian population. Prisons reform is an important part of nation’s development agenda and the foundation is proud to have engaged and assisted the Ghana Prisons Service undertake educational projects that will impact positively on efforts in that regard,” she added.
