DR Congo to camp in Oman for AFCON 2013

One of Ghana’s opponents at next year’s Africa Cup of Nation, DR Congo will hold a training camp in Oman to prepare for the January 19 to February 10 tournament.

Information gathered by GNA Sports indicates that the Leopards as the Congolese are nicknamed will be in the oil-rich gulf state from 3-15 January next year.

It is widely believed that the choice of Oman was mooted by the Frenchman, who handled the Arabian side between 2008 and 2011.

Prior to that, a training camp will be held in the South African city of Port Elizabeth from 8-18 December for only local-based players.
The training camp in Port Elizabeth is intended to help the team adjust to the city where they will be based during next year’s flagship African football tournament.

The Leopards will open their campaign in Group B against the Black Stars on January 20 before facing the Menas of Niger four days later, both in Port Elizabeth.

Le Roy, who steered the Stars to bronze at the 2008 Africa Cup of Nations on home soil is hoping to guide the Leopards to an impressive spell at the championship.

Meanwhile, the Congolese have lined up an international friendly against Les Etalons of Burkina Faso on Wednesday, November 14 in the Spanish Port City of Algeciras.
