Mr Seth Tekper, Minister of Finance and Economic Planning on Friday assured the nation that the Government under the leadership of President John Dramani Mahama would adequately resource the Electoral Commission (EC) for the conduct of Election 2016.
Presenting the budget statement and economic policy of the Government for the 2016 financial year on the floor of Parliament, Mr Tekper described 2016 as a significant political year due to the Presidential and Parliamentary elections.
He explained that in view of the critical importance the government attached to Election 2016, President Mahama has taken into consideration the necessary funding for the EC and would accordingly provide the needed resources.
Mr Tekper said there should be no doubt the economy benefits from a peaceful country and a peaceful election invariably benefits the country.
Despite it being an election year, the Finance Minister said President Mahama has assured the nation that the government would sustain fiscal discipline.
“In the past fiscal deficit have shot up especially during election, which momentary throws the country’s economy out of gear in the preceding year.
“President Mahama would resist election year overspending,” he indicated.
