Pomp and pageantry welcome GhanaFest 2015

FestivalGhana’s rich culture was the toast of thousands of patrons at this year’s GhanaFest celebrations in Chicago, Illinois, USA.

The festival, the 27th edition, saw the rich display of local chiefs and queen mothers and court members parading through the Washington Park with traditional rhythmic renditions of their various groupings.

Ghanaian world renowned master drummer, Okyerema Asante, famous for performing all parts of a traditional five-man drum group, was there to captivate the gathering with his performances.

The event, which was one of the leading gatherings of Ghanaians living in the United States, brought together thousands of people, amidst the pomp and pageantry by the traditional leadership of the various associations.

Mrs Elizabeth Ofosu-Adjare, the Minister of Tourism, Culture and Creative Arts, speaking as the guest of honour, said the Ministry has initiated a number of projects to develop and market Ghana’s tourism potentials to attract more investments.

She said it is refreshing to see the young people playing different roles in the festival, adding that, it was a sign of preserving the country’s rich culture for the younger generation, especially in the face of technological advancement.

Mr Ebenezer Antwi-Nsiah, the President of the Ghana National Council, commended the Tourism Minister for the support to promote tourism development in the country and for leading the delegation to the event.

Ghana’s delegation to the festival was made up of actresses, actors, queen mothers and members of the creative industry.

The festival celebrates the history, authenticity and culture of Ghana and recognizes the special bond of unity between Ghana and the United States.
