The United Stated has rejected claims that it is competing with China in Africa.

China in recent times has doubled its aid to Africa, giving countries on the continent larger loans for infrastructure development.

According to a seniour US Diplomat, the US has been in Africa since the beginning and it has core values that promote the development of Africa.

“We’re not competing with China in Africa,” US Assistant Secretary for Africa, Ms Linda Thomas-Greenfield said October 3, 2013 in a video conference in Washington.

Thomas-Greenfield added “Our efforts are in support of the desires of African people.”

According to her, the needs in Africa are great, “so I think African countries can work with the Chinese to get what is in their best interest”.

But they should not see it in their interest a competition between the United States and Africa, because that doesn’t exist, Thomas-Greenfield stated.
