Improving school environment said to be critical for quality education
Mr Mohammed Abdul-Salam, Programmes Co-ordinator of Global Communities, a Non Governmental Organisation, said improving school environment was critical in achieving quality education delivery.
He said Ghanaian pupils and students, therefore, deserved better in terms of sanitation and infrastructure.
Mr Abdul-Salam was speaking after a general cleaning and a tree planting exercise to mark the Green Apple Day of the Assakae-Whindo cluster of schools in Takoradi at the weekend.
The Green Apple is an initiative of the Centre of Green Schools in the United States of America to create high performing schools that have the potential to save and provide safer learning environments for children.
The initiative, therefore, gives individuals, companies and organisations an opportunity to transform all schools into healthy, safe, cost efficient and productive learning places.
Mr Abdul-Salam said the Green Apple Day also brought together students, parents, teachers, volunteers and community leaders to improve school environment through service projects.
He said as an international NGO, it would collaborate with organisations and communities worldwide to bring about sustainable changes to improve livelihoods.
Mr John Adjei, Headmaster of the school, expressed gratitude to the NGO for partnering with the school in a number of service projects including the construction of a 20-seater water closet for the school.
