Mauritius entrepreneurs eye business opportunities in Ghana
About 40 entrepreneurs from Mauritius are in Ghana to discuss business opportunities with face-to-face interventions with their Ghanaian counterparts.
The session, being jointly organised by the Board of Investment and Enterprise Mauritius (EM), will be the maiden edition of the Mauritius Trade and Investment Forum in Accra on 19 September to 20 September.
Mr Dev Chamroo, Chief Executive Officer of Enterprise Mauritius, the apex Investment and Trade Promotion agencies of Mauritius, told journalists ahead of Thursday’s meeting that the event aims at strengthening bilateral trade and investment relation between Mauritius and Ghana.
It will also be a platform for business to business meetings between entrepreneurs of the two countries.
The meeting will feature Mauritian entrepreneurs looking for investment opportunities in Ghana in all priority sectors, including joint venture collaboration, strategic alliances, franchising, project financing among other businesses.
There will also be buyers’ and sellers meeting, where a wide range of products manufactured in Mauritius will be exhibited.
Mr Chamroo said Mauritius would be interested in exploring business opportunities in the services, agriculture, energy, and infrastructure sectors as well as in the area of higher added financial services.
“The Mauritius entrepreneurs will come in to have a look at what Ghana can offer and what they can also offer Ghana so that together the two countries can explore synergies to the their mutual benefit,” he said.
Mauritius, he said, has the expertise in the offer of high value added services such as education and medicine, adding that the country had also diversified its industrial base over time to sea food processing as well as other products.
He said the forum would provide entrepreneurs of the two countries to share experience of investment opportunities or join hands in investment promotion that would allow for Ghanaians to look at Mauritius but also especially the 26 countries that they could reach from the country.
“There are avenues for collaboration and trade between Ghana and Mauritius and it would be happy doing business with West African countries.”
Mauritius annual export is about $6 billion out of which $2.4 billion account for the export of goods and $2.6 billion representing services exports. There is also exports of goods worth $1 billion to the African continent.
