Ghanaian entrepreneurs to attend forestry expo in China
The Ghanaian members of the China Friendship Association (GHACHIFA) would join an international forestry products exhibition dubbed: the ‘Yiwu Exhibition’ slated for November 1-4 this year.
The exhibition is to showcase Ghana’s timber, cocoa, sheabutter, cashew nuts, among other products.
It will afford the Ghanaians free publicity for the products to be exhibited in addition to a dedicated section of the exhibition centre meant for only made in Ghana products.
Addressing a press conference in Accra on Wednesday, President of the Association, Mr Kojo Gottfried said the exhibition was the first major attempt by an African country to penetrate the Chinese market with the support of the Chinese authority and the Chamber of Commerce.
He said it would be a major effort to market Ghana in China and what the country has to offer to the Chinese apart from its football prowess, its gold and her illustrious son Kofi Annan, former UN Secretary-General.
This collaboration, he said, had come about due to fruitful series of interaction among the two countries and exchange of visits between members of the Association.
The Chinese, he said, were poised to invest substantial private capital into seven sectors of the economy including building of modern market and shopping mall, energy and petroleum, investment in oil refinery and travel, tourism and hospitality industry.
The GHACHIFA and the Chinese counterparts are inviting the fullest participation of the Ghana Investment Promotion Centre (GIPC), the Forestry Commission of Ghana (FCG), Ghana free Zones Board (GFZB) and the Minerals Commission to the Yiwu Exhibition.
Mr Gottfried appealed to exhibitors to focus on the spirit of the deep friendship that binds the two countries together to help resolve challenges that might come up.
GHACIFA, the president said, would concentrate on preparations towards a visit by a 20-member delegation from China due in Ghana in July.
The visit by the delegation would precede the November exhibition and also help deepen the friendship through business undertakings.
GHACIFA would also continue its other public activities, he said, and noted that the next public activity was scheduled for Saturday July 6, 2013.
GHACHIFA is a friendship association and a not-for-profit organization with the aim of fostering the friendship ties between the good people of the Peoples’ Republic of China and the Republic of Ghana in the areas of economic, social, political, cultural and diplomacy.
